Why Imparting Good Security Measures Matter for every Employee

If you’re an owner of a small business, and you’re thinking cyber security issues do not affect your business, then you have to think again…

Hackers and cyber security threats often target the weakest link – usually, it’s not your tech guy. The link can be one of your employees, so making sure they are informed on how to prevent online security threats is a critical action.

With all issues related to online securities for your business, employee security and orientation and training are both a must!
Imparting Good Security Measures to your Employee

Every organisation, whether in large companies or small businesses, is responsible when dealing with protecting the business against security problems. Below are some points that can help you share information with your employee in protecting your data and information.

Promote effective password management. Weak passwords commonly serve as a strong bridge towards hackers’ success to security issues. Teach your employees to use strong passwords for effective security measures.

Create discussions regarding cyber security. Knowledge about security measures is very important. Make employees aware, get them involved as well. Impart them the significance of cyber security; that disregarding this can put the overall company at risk. As always, an effective cyber security should not only be a work-only effort.

Set limit access to some files inside the organisation. Let’s be aware that there are files that must be restricted to only some people in the organisation. Set access limit to be given to only some personnel. Leaks and breaches often happen due to file transfers and other open transactions.

Recommend regular updates. It’s important for your employees to make updates for their anti-malware programs, browsers and other software in a regular manner. You can do that either weekly or depends on the system requirements.

Lock. Log out. Orient your employees to lock their PCs whenever they leave their desks. Avoid their laptops to be openly visible and accessible to others; just log out from any app to hinder any unauthorised access.

Teach them to handle their portable devices properly. Tablets, phones and other gadgets must be handled properly; meaning you have to make them protected. Report as well if they are lost.

Just like success, cyber security issues cannot be achieved overnight. Therefore, protecting your data and company is a continuous process. It is a combined effort of the employer and employees. You must stop finding which part of your business can be the weakest point for attackers because one thing is for sure: cyber hackers do not cease to find slots where they can thrive and devastate your business!
